5 Minutes With… Lydia Lee

Take a moment to enjoy our latest edition of '5 Minutes With,' featuring Lydia, our Senior HR Specialist at Accela Talent, responsible for managing HR work for our clients. Keep reading to discover insights into her daily responsibilities, “hidden talents”, and her leisure activities outside of work.

What does a typical day look like for you?

Wake up (hello sunshine), wash up, snag a seat on the Downtown Line (perks of staying at the end of the line). I like checking my emails on the way in, so I know which ones I need to work on once I’m settled in. Respond to emails, discuss client work with my colleague, Parames, and get on some calls with prospective clients - all in a day’s work!

Which aspects of your role do you enjoy the most?

The diversity of it—no two days are the same. A quiet Tuesday morning might be followed by a crazy afternoon rush. The best part is always the thinking, brainstorming, and catching up with the team on how we can best support our client partners.

If you could do another job for just one day, what would it be?

Accounting! Assuming I have the knowledge, it might be nice to sit down with some cold, hard cash (idk how to strikethrough) numbers that always play by the rules.

What do you enjoy doing when you’re not at work?

Volunteering! I’m currently volunteering with the Red Cross, focusing on migrant worker initiatives and mixing in the occasional first aid event. I’m also trying to work out more—I gotta get that cardiac health in!

Do you have any “hidden talents”?

Finding things! Not just physical things like a power plug (I believe in organized mess), but also some nuggets of interesting information. If I’ve heard or read something somewhere that was interesting or useful, I usually remember it and can dig it up again later and apply it to a situation that we encounter.
